Authentic sourdough can only be made by live sourdough starter, not from any kind of packet or powder. It is completely different to the typical bland mushy bread found at the stores.
Authentic sourdough has a multidimensional flavor, crunchy crust, moist crumb and amazing texture. There are some bakery's that keep a live starter, but the bread can be expensive.
