glow bright kefir smoothie

PURPOSE: Giving your skin a covetable glow (plus healthy, shiny hair, better nails and clearer skin!)

While there are a lot of 'skin glowing' smoothie recipes on the internet, I find that most don't quite hit the mark (or are slopped together without much thought), so we wanted to bring you a more complete and beneficial recipe that you will truly see the results from if consumed regularly!

This (surprisingly) delicious and refreshing island-inspired smoothie contains a powerful combination of well-researched nutrients that do wonders for your skin and hair.

We've researched and put together ingredients known for their superior, incredible ability to make you glow from the inside, out!
Of course, this happens through repeated use but who can argue indulging in a tropical dessert every week that also just happens to increase health and beauty!

Like most of our smoothies, it is also 100% kid approved-delicious and will create healthy skin and hair (healing dry skin and dull hair, combating dandruff, eczema etc) for children and the whole family.

If you want to know why we chose the specific ingredients there is a breakdown at the bottom of the page of what's in it, otherwise skip on to the recipe and enjoy!

YEMOOS TIP: I find that this recipe is even more tasty the next day (has an added zing to it!) so don't be afraid to save extra! It also makes great popsicles if you have some molds on hand!

Makes about 4 cups

  • 1 cup swiss chard (stems removed, loosely packed)
  • 2 cups homemade* milk kefir
  • 1 can coconut milk**
  • 1 cup pineapple***
  • 1/2 cup papaya
  • 1 fresh apricot
  • 1/8 cup collagen powder
  • 1/8 cup walnuts (raw)
  • Optional: 1 tsp chlorella or spirulina (if you have never had either, please try first for any negative or allergic reactions)

*homemade is best due to the vastly different and superior probiotic content, bio-active peptides and enzymes
**unsweetened and less adulterated than the carton versions
***fresh is far superior for flavor, avoid canned as the key skin-care ingredient, bromelain, is destroyed

  1. Add all ingredients into a blender (1 qt+ size)
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Serve immediately (makes about 4 full cups).
  4. Store extra in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze any extra into popsicle molds!

Swiss Chard - for its incredible amount of Vit K (crucial in preventing wrinkles), vit A and chlorophyl (skin repair nutrients)

Milk kefir - for it's probiotics (a poor gut environment always leads to inflamed and problematic skin). The probiotics in milk kefir, which have been shown to actually take up residence in the gut (unlike yogurt!) greatly improve the barrier function of the skin (resulting in smooth, clear and hydrated skin).

Coconut Milk - high in so many nutrients such as Lauric acid which help hydrate the skin, reduce wrinkles and clear acne (I know we're all a bit coconut-fatigued but it's still popular for good and solid reasons!)

Pineapple - pineapple has been used for hundreds of years for it's amazing ability to make your skin glow (ingesting it, included!). The bromelain is a precursor for your body to produce collagen (which slowly depletes with age). It is also very high in vit C, which will further help you glow!

Papaya - papaya is an absolute powerhouse of Vitamin C, which helps to keep our skin youthful, healthy and glowing bright. It also contains a good amount of inulin (a great pre-biotic for the probiotics in this)

Apricot - for it's high Vitamin A, which is skin's favorite anti-aging and repairing ingredient!

Collagen - for it's well-known and documented ability to hydrate skin, fill in fine-lines, make nails strong and hair lush, and generally heal and repair the cells and makeup of our body!

Walnuts - also a favorite in skin-care ingredients due to it's hydrating and healthful fatty acids, including Omega 3's.

Chlorella - high iron and zinc (necessary for proper functioning and immune balance, which helps clear the skin of uneven tone, acne and other skin issues). This is an optional ingredient because it's important to know how your body reacts to this before consuming (it's highly beneficial to kids and adults alike, just before to try it out first!).
