Replacement Screens and Plastic Bands
Our favorite. Polypropylene is much more resistant to acids than nylon and has no known
hazardous chemicals (like bpa, yet atleast!), and of course, it's non-metal (if you wish to avoid
metals when fermenting). Many containers carrying food are now made of polypropylene. Besides
not being as prone to leach with acids, it is also more durable when wet than nylon- making it
perfect for straining. Dishwasher safe.
Stainless Steel Lids
Behind the Design

We were frustrated at the lack of choices and proper materials out there for straining and
sprouting, which eventually led to us designing our own. We're so excited to offer these specially
designed and carefully
handmade straining and sprouting lids for you to use for all your culturing
needs!
Our selected grade of stainless steel is known as 'marine grade' which is less corrosive than
the standard cheaper stainless steel used in most kitchen appliances and tools. It is highly
resistant to chloride and acids, making it perfectly suited for culturing, where those features are
crucial!
Polypropylene Lids
Our other non-metal alternative featuring our most open hole. It is also our gentlest option - with its
soft smooth surface. You can even simply use this as a gentle buffer-pairing this with another finer
stainless steel or polypropylene screen on top of it for finer straining results. Also withstands high
heat if you prefer to boil to clean. Best for straining, not as suitable for sprouting.
Silicone Lids
WIDE Mouth Compatible: (approx. 3.5" diam)
REGULAR Mouth Compatible: (approx. 2.75" diam)
WIDE Mouth Compatible: (approx. 3.5" diam)
If you already have bands at home, then all you need is the screen! We also offer additional plastic
bands
(TIP: buy one band and a few screens for a great start to sprouting or fermenting!).
REGULAR Mouth Compatible: (approx. 2.75" diam)
Criteria we wanted our lids to meet for ferments and
sprouting:

A higher quality stainless steel and plastic than the
standards used in most kitchen utensils.
A choice of a non-toxic plastic strainer alternative
for those who wish to avoid metal.
Dishwasher safe
An interchangeable, snug fitting screen (ability to
pop out to mix and match, without worrying about
them falling out on their own!)
Perfectly fitting lid for your regular and wide mouth mason jars (unlike some out there!)
Functional and convenient - straining and re-filling made easy (just pour through it!).
The plastic lid band doesn't rust (standard tin canning lids eventually rust, due to moisture,
acids, and contact with other metals (galvanic reaction).
Different size options for different needs so you can customize (jar size AND mesh size!).
Our fine mesh option offers extra fine straining (finer than any standard kitchen strainer)
which keeps out yeasty strands from kombucha and keeps in tiny grains (so you don't lose
your new baby kefir or ginger beer grains) to produce clearer, smoother and creamier results!
